Have you ever thought about how your memories will be preserved? If you’re anything like me you are constantly snapping thousands of photos and videos on your iPhone…but have you ever thought about how your babies will receive those one day when you’re gone? Will they have access to your iCloud? Will your facebook or instagram account be around forever for them to look at?
The pandemic over the past few weeks have reminded me now more than ever that the memories we are making are precious and they meant to be archived. Since many of us have a little extra time on our hands at home this seems like a perfect chance to launch a four week memory organization challenge!
I hope you’ll join me over the next four weeks as we make sure your photos and videos are preserved and backed up forever. It really is one of the most important things we can do for our kids! We will cover EVERYTHING so buckle up and get ready: iPhone photos, videos, back ups, old printed pictures, old VHS tapes, albums, wall prints, baby books, school projects and more.
I wanted to document this on my blog so that you would have a resource to come back to you if you fall behind, or if you’re an over achiever you can even want work ahead. Follow along on instagram for some fun giveaways and challenges as you go! You ready?!
MEMORY ORGANIZATION CHALLENGE – WEEK 1
Monday: Gather all the supplies you need!
- USB Drives and a decorative box to put them in. You can check out my amazon list for a list of a few of my favorites!
- A shoe box, plastic box, tub, etc. to organize all your tangible printed photos in. I also grabbed some file dividers so I can organize them by year.
Tuesday: Fix Your iCloud
Alright you guys, here is my two cents on your iCloud. It needs to be working, and it needs to have storage space.
I want you to picture that your phone, computer, or back up drive completely crashes right this second. Would you be devastated or would you be prepared? Would you lost everything or are your photos backed up? Would they be backed up somewhere online if your house caught on fire and everything was destroyed?
These are the questions we need to be asking ourself when it comes to iCloud. In my opinion, if you have an iPhone it is the easiest most fail safe way to back up your photos! Over the next four weeks I’ll be recommending you have at least TWO back ups, and this is the first. The most common complaint I hear is that it costs monthly to buy more storage, but in my opinion is is beyond worth it for the convenience. Ask yourself how much you would pay to have all your photos back if they disappeared and you might change your mind about that monthly fee.
*Please see my instagram highlights on Tuesday to see how to make sure your iCloud back ups are working correctly!
Wednesday: Clean out your iPhone starts now! Today we’re doing 2020!
So I don’t want to sugar coat this…this first week of organization is the worst week! Cleaning out your photos is tedious, but it will make every step here on after SO much easier! So grab a drink and a blanket and get cozy to sort through some photos. I have broken it up by year to make it a little more manageable. Wednesday is 2020, so start with this month and work backwards deleting EVERYTHING you don’t need. Duplicate photos, screen shots, video fails, etc. If you screen shot everything under the sun like me then organize those screen shots somewhere else. For example, I typically screen shot my recipes and “to-do’s.” I’ll be transferring recipes to my google documents and my to-do’s to my actual to-do list instead of having them lost on my camera roll. You got this!
*Make sure you snap a screen shot of your photo number before you start if you want to join in our instagram competition this week!
Thursday: Clean out your iPhone – 2019
You know the drill…do the same clean out as yesterday for the year 2019!
Friday: Clean Out Your iPhone – All Previous Years
Are you tired of swiping through photos yet? Are you crying looking back on your tiny newborn baby rabbit hole like I am? Don’t forget I said this week is the hardest and it’s easy from here on out! Keep going back and deleting as far as you can!
GOOD JOB GUYS!! Stay tuned for week number two launching next Monday. We’ll be covering all your videos!
